As someone who has experienced arrest for my work as a climate defender, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your solidarity and encouragement.
Your support has been a source of strength during some of the most difficult times for me and my family, reminding me that we are not alone in our efforts to protect the environment and address the urgent challenges of climate change.
Your actions, in any form—whether through signing petitions, advocacy, raising awareness, or simply being present—have made a real difference. I am deeply thankful for the role you played in my release.
Please continue to stay engaged and support our work to address the climate crisis.
Together, we can save the planet and create a just future for all, including the generations to come.
In 2022 Vietnam entered into a $15.5 billion Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) with G7 and other countries – a financing framework aimed at helping developing economies decarbonize their energy systems while transitioning to clean energy infrastructure.
At the same time, Vietnamese authorities have systematically targeted and imprisoned the country’s leading climate leaders and experts, excluding civil society from the energy transition process. What has happened to the “Just” transition?
May 31st 2024, marked first anniversary for Hoàng Thi Minh Hồng being arrested.
Hoàng Thi Minh Hồng was formally sentenced to 3 years in prison under false charges of tax evasion following her official trial in Ho Chi Minh City on September 28th 2023, where a fine of 100 million VND was also levied.
Working closely with 350.org since the organization’s early days, Hong has impacted her colleagues and friends in the movement. Hong established an affiliate organization, 350.org, known as the Center of Hands-on Actions and Networking for Growth and Environment (CHANGE), in 2013.
CHANGE, with its numerous accomplishments, played a pivotal role in halting the development and funding of coal-fired power plants in Vietnam.
Mobilization through creative ways is Hong’s master approach, therefore we hope to have the global solidarity action to do the similar ways. Your support for her early release will be very much appreciated.
